Maui Honeymoon – Part II

So, it has been over two months since I wrote Part I of our Maui adventure. Really didn’t mean to wait this long to write Part II, but here we are. Given that is has been so long, my memory is a little hazy, but I’ll do my best. The second part of our Honeymoon we moved from the Ritz in Kapalua to the Marriott Beach Club in Ka’anapali. The Marriott and that side of the island definitely offered a change of pace. It was less relaxing but we still had a great time. The first night we went to the Old Lahaina Luau, which I think is the most well-known one there. Now, this was the #1 thing I wanted to do on this trip. While it wasn’t my favorite part (that was definitely swimming in the waterfalls) it still was an interesting and fun night out. Yes, we saw the roasted pig that had been cooking underground. Not the most pleasant site, but it did taste darn delicious. My favorite part was learning the history of the island through the cultural dances. The dancers were impressive…I’ve never seen anyone move their hips that fast! I recommend the Old Lahaina Luau if you’re looking to delve into the history of Maui while feasting.

I think the next day was the day Jarrett attempted to surf in the rough waters. It didn’t go well to say the least. Meanwhile, this was the day I spent my time at the pool bar sipping mai tais. This was definitely the most relaxing time at the Marriott for me. That night we went to a popular magic show called Warren & Annabelle’s. I should say it was a magic comedy show. When they found out we were on our honeymoon, we were seated in the action. The magician performed right were we were seated! Not only that, but we were a part of the show all night. He was hilarious and poked fun at us and the other people in the front row. Plus, we were participants in the magic tricks. This was slight of hand magic, not the hokey make a car or woman disappear magic. It was so much fun! We spent the entire night laughing and smiling. Definitely recommend it if you’re ever in Maui.

Our last full day in Maui, we walked around the Beach Club and went snorkeling at Black Rock. This was our second snorkeling experience, and we just rented gear and went by ourselves. The water was much rougher than in Lanai, so it was somewhat challenging getting in and out in our gear. It was neat and I actually saw more of a variety of fish than I did in Lanai. Also, a giant turtle swam right below me…it freaked me out! I will say that I was proud of myself for snorkeling not once, but twice. As many of you know, I have an irrational fear of sharks, so this was quite a feat for me!

That concludes our honeymoon in Maui. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: Eat at The Gazebo for breakfast.  The best pancakes ever! It’s kind of hidden and out of way. You will have to wait in line for a good hour though, but it is so worth it. Also, sorry for the lack of photos; I really didn’t take many during Part II.

Maui is a beautiful, wondrous place with so much to do and see. I can’t wait to go back.
